This morning when Katie and I went to get into the car so that I could take her to the dentist, the car behind us started chirping at us -- single honks every time we got too close! It was really odd. I mean, I guess I could understand having that feature for cars that were getting too close, but for 150 pounds of human that was still 2 feet away?! That's your tax dollars at work for the department of defense. Speaking of which, I'm not really sure why a DOD vehicle would be parked on the residential street. Perhaps we're being watched due to our hatred of Bush! Naw, probably just some shmuck using the company vehicle for personal business...does that mean we're paying for his $4.29 per gallon gassoline?
In other news, Katie affirms that Ruth is the best dental hygenist she's ever seen. Not only did she not cause any pain (other people have a history of attacking Katie's gums with the sharp implements), but she's the first person ever to accomplish the task of removing all of the stains from Katie's now-white teeth! Way to go Ruth!
I'm feeling rather domestic. Yesterday afternoon (in the full awful heat of the day) we cleaned up the apartment. Last night I made a 4 bean salad. And today I made a very good tuna/egg/corn/black bean salad to make into wraps when I'm moved to have a bite to eat. Katie made the tuna/egg/corn salad last week from a great little cookbook I got her. It has a zippy vinegrette that uses plain yogurt rather than mayo and I decided, quite rightly, that black beans would be a tasty addition.
My broken toe is feeling better. Staying off of it yesterday enabled the swelling to go down. It still hurts, but I'm walking a little less gimpy. The crutches are riding along in the car just in case.
