Happy Inauguration!

Inauguration day was fantastic! I got to school early so that I wouldn't miss anything and I had the TV on in my classroom all day long. I didn't really do much teaching. The day was more about experiencing. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to feel guilty about that or not, but I don't. It was too important of a day! My principal didn't show up until 11:30 (because she was partying it up) and she spent most of the afternoon with us, so no guilt! I will have to take a picture of the artwork that I did with the kids. We watched the inauguration and then the speech. I had a group of about 10 3rd graders (some of whom were my students, some from Kathryn's reading group -- the TV in her room was out so I invited them to come join in our festivities!) and we made a giant mural/poster of the crowd. Their job was to represent all of the different people they saw. They did a good job at it, though a few cats were attending the inauguration! (Service animals, maybe?) Also, Barack had a few stunt doubles on hand for the event! The kids made signs for the people to hold too. Today they wrote out a few sentences to explain their work, and we posted it all down by the office. They got to choose where it went, and they wanted it there so that everyone could see.

I can still hardly believe that the day has finally come: Barack Obama is our president! In the past 36 hours I have said, "President Obama," many times and it sounds great. I am actually talking about the president and feeling happy!
