Furniture meant for self-loathing Amish to assemble.

This morning Katie and I made the journey down to IKEA because we were in need of some more large iced tea glasses. When we got there, they were having a "wacky weekend sale", so we decided to check it out. Much to our delight, we got a brand new cabinet for $9.00! It was actually meant for a sink, but they had an example where they attached the legs to what was meant to be the top side, and wound up with a great looking cabinet. The only flaw, as I discovered when I got to work on it, is that it is assembled with screws, and most of the holes are not pre-drilled.

IKEA furniture is supposed to be easy to assemble, with no power tools required, right? Well, according to the package all we needed was a philipshead screwdriver and an awl, and we were set. Hmm...after a longer wrestle trying to get the screws into the laminant, we decided that powertools were required. And thank goodness we got my drill/screwdriver. The cabinet was put together quickly (once the battery in the drill was all charged up that is).

Our finished cabinet.

A view of the hinges, which thankfully did fit into pre-drilled holes, and only required the part where the 2 halves attach to be screwed together.
