Waiting for our first light rail ride!
Fin, Elliot, and Grace on the train.
This morning, when light rail began running through Seattle, we were there! At 8:30 this morning, Julie hosted a potluck breakfast at her house for the neighbors. Then, at about 9:30, we walked over to the Beacon Hill station. There was a line, but once the line opened at 10, it only took about 20 minutes before we were aloud into the station, and then another 10 minutes or so before they let us on the train. They were only letting about 20 people on per stop, because they wanted to make sure that people at every stop had the opportunity to board, not just those at the 2 ends. Very smart planning.
The shiny new station is so pretty! They all are! So are the trains. I hope they stay that way.
We rode down to Tukwila, where we all had to disembark, then get back into line to ride back. There was an option to take a free shuttle bus back, but we decided to wait for the train. There were lots of people, but the wait wasn't bad. The others got off when we got back to Beacon Hill, but Katie and I stayed on until the end of the line. We walked from Westlake down to Seattle Center for the Bite of Seattle.
At the Bite, we went to "The Alley", sponsored by Tom Douglas. For $10 (which was all to be donated to Food Liveline), we got to try food from 7 fancy restaurants. Once we had picked them all up, our plates were full, and shortly thereafter so were our bellies! It was very good. Definitely the best deal there!
When we were done eating, we walked back to Westlake and caught the light rail back to Beacon Hill. It was so easy. A very quick and comfortable ride! I can't wait to get my Orca card so that I can prepay for my rides. It will be particularly good for going downtown to go shopping or to other events.
