When directed, drop a stitch and tear it back 4 rows to the background color. It helps to use the left needle tip to pull the stitches out. There's enough friction in the Comfy yarn that it doesn't try to rip back by itself, giving you enough control to start going pretty quickly once you get the hang of it.
After tearing out 1 stitch, down 4 rows, pick up the next stitch (which will be the 1st one in the background color). Aim under all of the loops from the torn out stitches.
Put the left needle through the stitch that you have torn down to, with the 4 loops of yarn over the top of the needle.
Put your right needle through the stitch that you caught. The dropped stitches will be over the top of the needles, and look messy, but this is what is going to get them wrapped across twice with the yarn so that there will be no loops on the back. It is also what helps with the shaping, so that the colored blocks look like "bubbles" and not rectangles, and keeps them from getting too loose.
Complete the knit stitch, pulling it from under the 4 loops made by the dropped stitches.
The tricky stitch is done! Knit 3 more regular knit stitches, then try the tricky stitch again.
you're like a regular yarn harlet!
ReplyDeleteLet me know how it goes! I'm really enjoying it. Oh! Another tip: when you separate out the stitches for the sleeves, put them on a piece of yarn, not a stitch holder, because they have to be able to bend.
