Happy Birthday Baby Abe!

After much waiting (and hundreds of text messages in all), Abram SaanZai Hoff was finally born on Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at 4:49 am Anchorage time. This meant (Hannah) that when Ruth texted us pictures of his arrival at 5:59 am, she had spent all of 10 minutes (not an hour) enjoying her new grandson (and taking care of Emi) before alerting the rest of us. Of course, once we knew of his arrival, none of us fell back to sleep.

We knew that the folks up in Anchorage had purchased a confetti cake mix to make in celebration of Abe's arrival, so after our last baby swim class of the year, Katie and I made the pilgrimage to Albertson's for a confetti cake mix, chocolate fudge confetti frosting (ie: free sprinkles), a tube of white icing, and cake decorating tips. A few hours after that, Abe had a cake!

After dinner we all (except for Grandma, who was at the baseball game for the 2nd of 3 times this week) got together at Grandma and Grampa's to have cake and celebrate Abe's arrival. Grandma had a book of baby names, so we looked up the meanings (and predictions for one's life) for all of our names. Some were humorously incorrect.

  1. Looks like a good party. Wish the birthday boy was there for you all to see. So far he hasn't laid in his bed for more than a few min. Everyone wants to hold him.

  2. Your cakes looks much prettier than the one we made (with frosting made with some of the blueberry "jam" that we made).
