Anchorage: day 3

Today was a busy day. Neil got up bright an early to go into work for 2.5 hours and Emily and I had a leisurely morning with Banjo and Rio. When Neil got home from work, we went to the Snow City Cafe for breakfast. It was really good. I tried reindeer sausage in my scramble!

After breakfast, we came back home to pick up Banjo and our gear (including some snacks) and drove out to Portage Bay to hike to Byron Glacier. It was fun, but a lot of work. The road out to the trail head wasn't cleared, so we had to park the car and snow shoe out to the start of the trail. It was hard, but once we got to the trail, it was even harder. We all fell down a number of times, but that was part of the fun.

Neil took a tumble.

We got back to the car completely exhausted and headed to a bakery in Girdwood for "lunch" (which we ate after 4 pm). Neil got a grilled cheese sandwich and Emily and I each got a bowl of their really good homemade soup. When we were eating it, the guy who worked there came over to let us know that there were free refills on the soup, so Emily decided to get another half bowl for the peanut.

We stopped off at Costco (completing my requisite pilgrimage) to get some milk and at Carr's (which is some sort of Safeway affiliate) on the way home to get the fixings for milkshakes, which is what we plan to have for dinner tonight!

  1. Sounds like you are getting a lot of exercise while you are up there. That scramble looks good.
