Anchorage: day 5

Today was definitely one of our more low key days. No excessive exercise for this bunch! Neil got off to another early start, getting up in time to walk to and catch the bus to work, so that Emily and I could have the car (without having to get up early to drive him into work).

Emily and I had a leisurely breakfast of strawberry-banana smoothies, made by chef Emily, followed by a trip to Carr's (aka Safeway) to get the rest of the fixins for dinner. By late morning, our dinner (chili for Frito pie) was in the crock pot, cooking away.

After lunch (leftovers from yesterday), knitting, and some enjoyable episodes of Gilmore Girls, we headed out to the Anchorage Museum.

We could tell from looking online that the typical $8 admission had been reduced to only $5, due to some work being done, but online it appeared that everything would be open except for the archives (and we had not interest in searching through old records). Unfortunately, it turned out (after we had paid to get in) that nearly the whole museum was closed. Luckily, the Alaska room was still open, which showed the history of the state and had lots of artifacts. It was pretty cool. And as we left, I managed to find a few neat souvenirs in the gift shop to bring home.

Emily and I headed to Sears to look for more maternity clothes, because Ruth had had so much success in Seattle, but it turns out that the only maternity clothes they had at the moment were on clearance. Normally this would be great, but it meant limited styles and sizes, so Emily didn't wind up getting anything. I, however, found a great new purple down vest from Landsend for only $8.50, so it was a satisfying trip.

We killed a little time at Starbucks, then picked Neil up from work. Emily and Neil's friend Rachel came over at about 7 for dinner. The Frito pie was really good. And Rachel taught us to play a card game she called Yucker.

I am still working on the back of the baby's sweater, but it is SO close to being done. It is also very long (but completely to size)...I envision it fitting until kindergarten.
